The money is gone. All of it!” she replied still walking off. Kunmi followed her and pulled her back. She flared and suddenly started throwing a tantrum. She started picking anything she could lay her hands on and was throwing everything off. Kunmi paused and looked at her in awe. How did he manage to marry someone like this without even realising it? He couldn’t even move close to her. She was like a mad woman. Confused and not knowing what to do, he tried to calm her down and she just started hitting him himself.

“Let’s forget about the money, just calm down!” he managed to say but she was deaf to it. She dived into the kitchen and he tried to follow her when he accidently slipped and hit the floor with a heavy thud. Before he passed out, he just had a blurry view of Demi leaving and running off.

Kunmi woke up unable to move his body and felt faint. He managed to force his eyes open but his throat was dry.

“Water.” He managed to say. Gbenga lifted his head silently and gave him water. “What happened?” he asked when he was calm.

“Demi happened. You fell and hit your head.” Gbenga replied with a sad face.

“Yeah, yesterday was pretty intense. Where’s she?” Kunmi asked.

“You’ve been unconscious for a week and Demilade is gone. We couldn’t find her anywhere.” Gbenga replied calmly.

“What do you mean I’ve been unconscious for a week? She can’t just leave. I need to find her, why can’t I move?” Kunmi asked struggling to get up. Gbenga laid him back calmly and looked at him with pity.

“You hit your head so bad and it’s a miracle you’re still alive, but I’m afraid the fall had a terrible impact. You have paralysis. You won’t be able to move. I can’t tell if it’s a temporary or permanent one yet, but with ther…”

“My life is over. How could this happen? No I don’t understand any of this.” Kunmi lamented and started breathing heavily.

“I’m so sorry about all these but it doesn’t have to be over for you.” Gbenga said and swallowed. “She left a note.”

“What did the note say?” Kunmi managed to ask.

“She’s been off her pills for a while; it’s a surprise you didn’t know. She said she hopes you find someone that loves you better… well she said a lot but she’s gone Kunmi. I’m sorry.”

“This feels like a dream. I can’t believe she would do this. I have nothing left in my account and I’m paralysed. Why don’t I just die.” Kunmi croaked. “You warned me, I should have been more careful. I just..” Kunmi stopped short and closed his eyes, hoping to open them again and see it was all a dream.

“I will be here for you. I will get you a great therapist and make sure you are back to your normal self eventually.

“You really think I’ll be able to walk again?”

“I hope so. I really do hope so.”

Kunmi nodded slowly and shut his eyes as a painful tear dropped from the corner of his eyes.
