FADED (SERIES FIVE)
AUTHOR/WRITER: THE FIFTEENTH
I arrive to an empty apartment, in a bid to distract myself I pace about for several minutes. Soon I tire of that and dial Daniel’s number, he answers on the first ring_
Daniel: “hey babe! Wassup?
Daniel: “Are you still at your mum’s?”
Daniel: “How did things go?”
Daniel: “Oh! She’s back with Anthony?”
Daniel: “Ok-ay…you’re sounding weird. Are you okay?”
“No! Of course not!”
Daniel: “Why didn’t you say that?!”
“You didn’t ask!!”
Daniel: “Okay. What happened?”
“Oh where do I begin?! Is it the part of my mother being a monster?!”
Daniel: “Yep, I think we’ve established that fact a while back…ermm…babe can we talk about this tonight, I have a meeting right now. Love you!”
I spend the rest of the evening cooking and replaying the week’s events to Daniel, who as usual comforted me with a heavy dose of tender loving care.
Grrrrrrrrr! Grrrrrrr! Grrrrrrr! Grrrrrrrr!
I pull the covers over my head and bury myself deeper in the bed.
Grrrrrrr! Grrrrrr! Grrrrrr! Grrrrrr!
Daniel: “babe I really think you should take that call so I can get some sleep”
“Ugh! It’s my mother!”
Daniel: “isn’t it a bit too early for her to be calling…”
“Really babe it’s past 9 am already, pfft! I know that cause she’s called five times already”
Daniel: “its 9am on a Saturday so yes it’s still too early”
Daniel: “and be nice to her!”
I pull the covers back, climb out of bed, grab my phone from the dresser table where it had passed the night and stepped into the hallway to answer my mother’s call_
Keep your anger in check.
Mother: “Hello. It-s me…”
Mother: “Can we see today? I’ll love to see you today”
“no, I’m busy. And I have to go now”
With that I end the call.
Daniel: “what did she want?”
“To meet up, she’s really sorry about everything but I don’t care”
Daniel: “she actually said that?!”
“Yes. And so?”
Daniel: “it means she’s really sorry! I think you should meet up and hear her out, I mean she’s been hurt too with Anthony leaving and all”
“Oh please! She deserves all that and more for all she’s done!”
Daniel: “are you serious right now?! You claim she was being immature by naming her past as an excuse for her behaviour and yet you’re doing the same?!”
I glare at him.
Daniel: “maybe you’re the one who needs to grow up and learn that the world doesn’t revolve around you!”
I run into the bathroom and slam the door. An hour and a good cry later, I dial my mother’s number_
Be nice. Be nice
“Okay where and when”
Mother: “I’ll text you. Thank you”
Lord help me.
